Kenyan Soldiers Killed In Helicopter Crash

In a statement Thursday, KDF said all the passengers on board the Kenya Air Force helicopter Mi171E which crashed upon landing at Ol Tepesi are accounted for  and survivors have been moved to safety.

Kenya’s military, Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) has confirmed the deaths of several soldiers after a military helicopter crashed during training outside Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

In a statement Thursday, KDF said all the passengers on board the Kenya Air Force helicopter Mi171E which crashed upon landing at Ol Tepesi in Kajiado county are accounted for,  and survivors have been moved to safety.

“Regrettably, following the crash, we suffered casualties. The process of communicating with the families to relay the informational KDF condolences are underway,” the statement read. But it does not give details on the numbers.

A police official who spoke to this website on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media said 17 soldiers died whereas six people with severe injuries.

Aircraft accident investigators are at the crash site to establish the cause of the accident, the military says.
