One “inebriated” soldier killed eight passengers and wounded seven on Monday aboard a boat on Lake Tanganyika, South-Kivu province’s Fizi territory administrator Aime Kawaya Mutipula told AFP.
The cause of the incident at Katindo camp, in the city of Goma, was not immediately clear. Services have been deployed to investigate, said Muyaya on Twitter.
Heavy fighting broke out on Monday after the M23 attacked two Congolese army positions near the borders with Uganda and Rwanda and advanced on nearby towns, causing thousands of people to flee into Uganda.
